Baltimore Metropolitan Council Visits Durham

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a delegation from the Baltimore metropolitan area as they toured Durham, North Carolina, learning about the city's economic development, local businesses, and history.

The delegation included Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and was welcomed by former Durham Mayor Bill Bell.

Exploring Downtown Durham

Throughout the visit, I photographed the group as they toured downtown Durham, visited local businesses, and met with community leaders. Several businesses were involved in entrepreneurial incubator programs supported by Self-Help Credit Union.

The group visited the historic American Tobacco Campus, one of Durham's most recognizable redevelopment projects. Once part of the city's tobacco industry, the campus is now home to restaurants, offices, and entertainment venues.

Learning About Durham's Black Business History at NCCU

At North Carolina Central University (NCCU), the delegation attended a lecture about the history of Black businesses in Durham, including the city's historic Black Wall Street and its role in Black entrepreneurship.

Touring Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University

The delegation also visited Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University, home of the Duke Blue Devils basketball teams. One of the most recognizable college basketball venues in the country, the stadium is an important part of Durham's sports history. I had the opportunity to photograph the group as they toured the arena and experienced one of Durham's most well-known landmarks.
